Hello,
I have Windows 7 Profession 64 Bit on my laptop and I used the standard sound device driver.
(In Presonus Settings the audio device is 'Windows audio'.)
When I connect the music keyboard (Yamaha PSR-E433) to my PC via a USB cable, I can feel a small latency.
If I use an external voice of Presonus (let's say GrandPiano) together with the GrandPiano voice of the PSR-E433,
it sounds a bit like an echo.
The input latency is 10 ms and the output latency is 20 ms.
Sure this is not much, but it is noticeable while playing.
Then I downloaded ASIO4ALL v2 and set it as a device in Presonus.
Right now both the input latency and the output latency is 3 ms.
Sadly I can't test this result today (I'm not at home today), but I don't know the practical influence of the block size..
In the manual it says it's some kind of buffer which is in relation to performance and plugins.
Well, since I'm pretty new I don't use any plugins (yet).
My 'only' usage is that the keyboard sends the StyleOut via MIDI, and that I play bass with one hand and chords with the other hand.
(Channel 3 for split voice and channel 1 for main voice).
The current ASIO4 settings in Presonus are:
Device block size: 128 samples
Internal block size: 128 samples
Process Precision: 64 Bit
[x] Enable Multi-Processing + using all cores (2 cores + 2 threads)
Input latency: 3.00 ms (144 samples)
Output latency: 3.00 ms (144 samples)
Sample Rate: 48 kHz
Bit Depth: 32
Do you think this might be enough for my little usage?
The bigger the block size the higher the latency - that's clear but will the PC have to work more or less?
I think the PC will have to work more if the latence is low.
Thanks for any help!

You are correct in that with a smaller block size the computer is constantly busy keeping up with you. Higher block sizes give your computer a 'buffer' that allows smoother processing but adds the latency you were seeing with the first driver.

Hello,
I read your message but forgot to answer.
Thank you for your explanations!
I tried some settings, and it seems there is a good range of settings.
So even if I increase the block size, the input and output latency, it's much better than with the Windows driver.
I'm really fascinated.
Best regards

There is no list of available sample in device block size menu. Studio One Choose Song, select Song Setup, and then click Preferences in the lower left-hand corner of the window. In the Audio Setup tab, simply choose your buffer size from the drop-down window labeled Device Block Size. Sep 19, 2016  With my research, it looks like lowering the buffering size could help, but I can't click the 'control panel' button for the AudioBox in the 'options' menu to adjust the buffering size. It's there and not grayed out, but I still can't click it for some reason. Here's the current settings of the AudioBox iTwo: Device Block Size: 800 samples. My 'only' usage is that the keyboard sends the StyleOut via MIDI, and that I play bass with one hand and chords with the other hand. (Channel 3 for split voice and channel 1 for main voice). The current ASIO4 settings in Presonus are: Device block size: 128 samples Internal block size: 128 samples Process Precision: 64 Bit. I'm thinking of buying a new computer to run Studio One 4. What are some things that I should consider? When using effects plug-ins and running at a low Device Block Size, you will want to have the most powerful processor that you can afford. It is recommended that you go with an I7 processor or higher with 4 cores or more.

My Device Block Size is set to 512 samples and I can't change it, higher or lower. My input and output latency settings won't change either. Input = 532 samples, output = 885, and same for sample rate 44.1 and bit depth 32, which I wouldn't want to change anyway.
Why can't I change my Block Size??

Some system specs would be needed, and its best to put them into your profile sig.
Without further information, I would guess that you are using windows audio?

My upper limit is 488.
I just keep it there, figuring the highest is the best.
I've always assumed that this is a function of the audio interface (Presonus Firewire FP10) in how fast & how much data it can handle. Since it's firewire, I would have expected a higher block size, however everything works great including Melodyne.
When opening Melodyne, a pop up nags about it.. saying my block size is to low.

In that case you change it in universal control.

Update..
I've since found out (duh) that if I change my latency in my AI control panel, that in turn will change my block size.
I'm away from my studio now but if I remember right, lower latency (lower ms value) lowers the block size. I was set at 8-10 ms latency so if I change it to 14-16ms, I can get a 588 - 624 block size.
It used to be the Melodyne always complained my block size was too small.. but not any longer now.
